18C. Russian Silver and Carved Coconut Goblet

Moscow c.1747. Exhibiting workmanship of the finest quality, this delightful drinking vessel combines beautifully wrought silver work with a masterfully carved coconut shell, creating an object that would have been prized in upper class circles for its rarity and exoticism. Carved roundels on this example include the Russian Imperial double eagle and the badge of the order of St. George. A similar goblet is displayed in The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
